    that’s propaganda.

the school education, whatever devoted to carry on communist ideas, was far from the Soviet child hero’s story, /the guy who gave away his parents for being enemies of the Party/

all children aging six were to attend their local basic /9 grade/ schools and then select a specialisation, depending on their interests – the preferable were the worker occupations, of course.

The worst part of all this stuff was that each child carried a “log” where its parents’ origin and past loyalty to the Party was recorded. Any defectee /=emmigrant/, or traitor in the family has effectively deined any chance to get to the higher education, let alone university.

A positive thing, absent in nowadays Czech education, was a periodical WMD drill, where the schools practised evacuation and emergency procedures in case of WMD attack – we have been part of the Varsaw pact and readzing for the WW3 by that time.

A vivid part of education were the after-school activities, hidden eunder the unmbrella term SVAZARM – this included pilot training, shooting, sports activities, and even the radio-phonics, all more or less openly dedicated to the pre-draft preparation of future conscripts
