England U19s put on a suitable audition for Head Coach Noel Blake on Tuesday night, maintaining their unbeaten run this season and seeing off the challenge of Czech Republic in their final match before they tackle the Elite Qualifying Round in May. Whilst the scoreline wasn’t as comfortable as it perhaps could’ve been, Blake and his staff will be pleased with the performance from the Young Lions, who controlled possession throughout and created a number of clear chances. Blake had told his players before the game that with the Qualifiers on the horizon, this was a chance to prove their worth for a place in the squad and it was clear they were all eyeing up a spot for those three games against Switzerland, Montenegro and Slovenia, which England will host later this year. In the end, it was left to goals from striker Harry Kane and his second-half replacement Pat Bamford to secure victory but there were opportunities spurned for others across the 90 minutes and that will be one area at which Blake will be looking for improvement. England had the best of the early efforts, when Luke Garbutt’s wicked free-kick from the left picked out Harry Kane at the far post but his header bounced into the ground and over the bar in the 13th minute.
