The Czech Republic may be ranked by FIFA as the on second best team in the world behind Brazil and the best in Europe, but they made hard work of qualifying for the finals. Record against the Netherlands in qualifying, they lost home and away and also suffered defeat in Romania to finish second in the group. They won both home and away 1-0 against Norway in the playoffs to secure their place in Germany.

Despite a nervous qualifying, expectations are high this time for the first occurrence of the Czechs in the final, because they entered as Czechoslovakia in 1990. All made their mark as the Czech Republic ten years ago surprised everyone by reaching the final of Euro 96 and taking eventual winners Germany in extra time.

With Nedved, Galasek, Poborsky and Tomas Rosicky, the Czechs boast one of the most creative midfields in international football. Jan Koller beaten nine times in the qualifying match for his taking up 40 goals in 66 appearances, but he is in danger of missing the finals after suffering cruciate ligament damage in September 2005.

While virtually unstoppable on offense, where the Czechs fail in the defense. Full back Marek Jankulovski and Zdenek Grygera offer many attacks the back support, but are prone to being caught. But given their total assets they are worth a cry for the tournament to win the long odds
