Generally speaking, with a letter of invitation from a company, how long does it take for an American citizen to get a Czech working visa?

If you have all paperwork together it should not take more then 2 weeks. Getting all the proper paperwork ready usually takes time. I am not sure how it works when you apply from abroad but it used to be (not anymore) possible to apply from within CZ and then you also had to have things like notarized confirmation from your landlord that you have where to live. Your employer though should know all this, unless you are the first foreigner they are going to employ.
