Question by Johnny: How can I trace my grandparents from Czech and Austria roots?
My father’s dad came from the old Czech Republic, and his mother came from Austria, but i don’t know where in those two countries my grandparents were born. I am going over to visit Prague and Vienna in the spring of 2012 and woul like to know where to check for any information as to where they were born. Additionally, does anyone know of a family I could live with in Prague to gather information on my next book about the Czech Republic and its culture, and people? This book would be about both countries and the life style, as viewed by photos and eye witness interviews with local people.

To trace your ancestry roots you’ll have to start trying to find a lineage from some ppl that you know around you and to do a vast search of your birth name and this may bring startling results i have looked up my name and i think i may have german descent and this may help you find what you are looking for.

It is a nice idea but in reality it isn’t as easy as you think it will be………….. you always work from the known to the unknown so you do the work before you go, starting with what you know this website will help you start from you and work back from records you have at home and interview all and any family you know, even the smallest clue can make a whole lots of difference http://familytimeline.webs.com/recordsinyourownhome.htm I suggest you also get onto some FH forums, such as rootschat a very active UK forum which does have sections for Czech and Austria..both very lovely countries…. many ‘local’ people are on them and it is daily active and some will advise or even go and check records for you……………………
I had a penfriend from the age of 7 years at school in Czech….so that may be an option you could look for online with an aim to visiting and staying………… don’t know search penfriends czech republic
