Question by : I’m a student going to Berlin in 2 weeks. Which Europass should I get? Any thoughts on where I should go?
I can’t decide between the Germany-Czech republic pass and the Germany- Denmark pass. I want to cover as much ground as I can. I arrive in Berlin on the 24th, around 11am. I plan to go around Berlin until the next day as I am attending a concert in Berlin on the 25th around 8pm. I am planning on spending the night in Berlin. After the day of the concert, I have no idea where to go. I am in that part of Europe until the 30th, around 8am (my flight leaves for Munich, and I get a day in Munich because of a 20 hour lay over). Please help me plan an itinerary. I am very indecisive and would greatly appreciate some advice. Anyone done this before? This week is my birthday week, and I really want to have a great time. Let’s assume a budget of around 1000 euros (not including hotel fees) . I don’t plan to spend that much, however, that would be about the limit of mine and my parents comfort zone. They basically told me to have fun and to have a great birthday, and that is precisely what I hope to do. I am a guy and am going to be 22.

Jon… I’m so jealous right now that I can barely answer this question without hating the mere thought of you….
Ok. I’ll pretend you’re my kid brother and that I’m actually HAPPY that you’re getting this great life-time opportunity instead of wanting your train to burst into hot flames.
Seriously, I lived in Germany two years (Frankfurt, former military officer) and Berlin was great. Be sure and spend some time in the eastern district (not as glamorous as old West Berlin but culturally significant nonetheless i.e. Brandenburg Gate and the old Nazi HQ, the Reichstag building).
As to your question about which Euro-pass to purchase, well price is important but assuming you got “options” then I vote for the seeing Czechoslovakia instead of Denmark. Why?
Let’s face it ~ the Danes are just Germans with lotsa boats who eat lotsa fish so why go there? You’re gonna see the Germans in Berlin then hop on a train and see their Danish cousins in Denmark? Ok, I’m kinda kidding but not really…
I hung out in Copenhagen and it’s a totally beautiful, gorgeous city! Madam’s Tussaud Wax Museum, Hans Christian Andersen’s “LIttle Mermaid” statue etc. ad nauseam but bro, money is kinda an issue (very expensive there) and the coolest young people will be backpacking and hanging out in Prague, NOT Copenhagen… how do I know this? Were you not listening? Young broke people hang out in cheap places (Prague) not expensive European capitals like Copenhagen, okay? If you wanna eat fish on a Kaiser roll then have some in Prague! The kids your age will be all over the place in Prauge. Find out where the Prauge youth hostel is and see if you can book yourself into there. You should do the same thing in Berlin. Why not save even more money?
I stayed at a hostel in Paris and met some Norwegian kids and we all hung out. They had me up to their home (near the North Pole, no sh!t) for Christmas later that year. I took a train from Frankfurt to north of Oslo in DECEMBER! I was younger then so I didn’t care. The irony escaped me…
But those guys were so cool and excited that I actually came up there to hang out with them. I had a Euro-Pass so yeah that worked out. Please, if you get the chance to hang out with any Scandinavians, do so but don’t go off to Denmark looking for ’em. You’ll meet ’em in Prague!
Best of luck, Happy Eventual Birthday &.. sorry I hated you. I shouldn’t done that.
