The world is filled with hotels; some great and some not so great. As any seasoned traveller knows, many not so great hotels have no hesitation to charge their customers five star prices. So, one cannot only go by price to single out a five star hotel. However, when a hotel is rated highly on many traveller websites and hotel reviews year after year, these hotels must offer something special. Here is a list of some of those luxury hotels. You might be surprised at some of their locations.

The Golden Well Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic is truly a five star hotel. Located beneath the walls of the Prague castle, the hotel offers its guests all they could want. Each room is individually decorated in an East European style. The bathrooms feature heated floors, hand held shower heads, marble bathtubs and include robes and slippers for each guest. The rooms feature comfortable sheets and comforter for their guests. Meals can be served in the room if the guest requests. On the fourth floor of the hotel is their restaurant with great views of Prague offering international and local cuisine. Did I mention the hotel has a private entrance to the rose garden of the palace? The restaurant also serves meals on the roof veranda. Each room also has a great view of the city. The hotel provides transportation from the airport and will arrange any outings a guest requests. Golden Well has free in room internet and telephones with multiple lines in each room. The rooms come with cable television and free DVD rentals are available.

Leaving Prague, we will now travel to Fez, Morocco. We will be staying at the Riad Le Calife. This small hotel with 4 suites and 3 large rooms is a converted home in the older area of Fez. The hotel is very modern, however. It features internet throughout the hotel, marble bathrooms, sitting areas in most rooms and a pool area. The villas have a private courtyard where breakfast can be served. The Riad features three eateries including a snack area, a bar area and a more formal restaurant. All the rooms are air conditioned for the guest’s comfort. The hotel sits on a hill and overlooks Fez and the bay. If you want a peaceful family-like atmosphere in busy Fez, this is the place to go.

We are now travelling to Udaipur, India to the Taj Lake Palace a true luxury hotel. Designed to look a bit like the Taj Mahal, this hotel sits in the centre of a beautiful lake. To reach it, you need to take the shuttle from the airport and then the boat to the Taj. The Taj offers 83 guestrooms and suites. Included in the room rate is breakfast, a free limo for transportation, and spa treatment. The rooms are large and all include a view of the lake. If you remember the James Bond movie Octopussy, this was one of the sites used to film the movie. The Taj was the home of Octopussy. There are three restaurants on the property as well as several bar areas. Tea is served in the afternoon and the pool overlooks the garden area. The hotel has several garden terraces and canopied areas that overlook the lake. All the rooms include balconies, a stocked minibar, fireplaces and unique Indian decorations. The Taj has a number of hotels in India. This Taj is the best in the world.

This is the end of our tour. These four wonderful luxury hotels have made me forget all about home. I think I will just stay here in beautiful India.
