According to the fact that Czech Greenways is a Czech civic organization founded shortly after 1989 by a group of Czech and American enthusiasts exploring ways to protect the only one of its kind civilizing and natural heritage of the Czech lands. In the present day Czech Greenways works under the auspices of a Czech environmental foundation – the Environmental Partnership for Central Europe, with the help of a US civic organization, Friends of Czech Greenways in New York. Czech Greenways was established as a sister project of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, New York. The Vienna-Prague Greenways are a designated corridor of 100-year-old hiking trails stretching for 250 miles from Vienna to Prague along the Dyje River in Southern Moravia and the Vltava River Valley in Southern and Central Bohemia. It connects beautiful countryside by means of cultural monuments, historic towns and villages with restored castles and churches. In view of the fact that much of the Czech Greenways stretches by the side of the former Iron Curtain, anywhere there was incomplete right of entry and no growth for 45 years, the countryside remains unhurt and the surroundings clean.
