Question by Woo!: How do American people compare to Czech Republic people?
I’m going to Czech Republic to study abroad in the fall and was wondering how the people compare to american people. I know a little czech now, but not enough to survive. I plan to learn more from here to September.
Do they act the same as american college students or are they more into studying? Fashion people, do they follow same fashion as the US or is it completely different? Anything at all that you think can help.

Like in the USA you will find a mixture of people, some studious, some more for partying and most in between.
The only real difference I have seen is that less people are morbid obese, there are some but not in the numbers you will find in the USA.
Like young people everywhere some will be into fashion, others will be happy in jeans, T-shirts and sweaters.
If you are really into fashion run a google search or a flickr search for the university city and see what people are wearing.
On the other hand, you can also just wear what you would at home, weather conscious of course, and just see what the students in Czech republic wear.
Learn as much Czech as you can before going over, it is not an easy language and a lot of people do not speak English. And a lot of young people have learned English but are a bit afraid to speak it, if you can get by in worse Czech, they will be more happy to use their English. But if your Czech is not enough to get by in and you are afraid to use it, you will not be able to trick them into using their English.

Oh dear, are you in for a change…
Excellent beer, pretty good food, both affordble. Loads of emphasis on flavour and not on bulk. No chain restaurants. Lot more alcohol use and abuse though.
A good public transport system in the big cities.
Far less obese people
Few if any black people
Hardly any empty smiles and obligatory “hihowareyou” greetings.
Fashion.. tends to be a bit more conservative than in the USA and western europe.
